Explosive
Using plastic explosives for artistic purposes: dynamite and nitroglycerin on stainless steel were used to construct works of art.
The detonations were carried out in the woods of Northwood, New Hampshire, USA between 1991 and 1993. “Detonating cord”, commercially known as “Primacord”, was used to create the bas-reliefs and also blasting caps to activate, made from nitroglycerin, activated with 11-volt charges. The explosives were the kind used to build highways, drill mines, put out fires, demolish buildings, movie special effects, or to detonate other, more powerful, explosives, such as hydrogels. All the sculptures were created in consultation with the Italian artist Silvana Cenci, known as the “Dynamite Lady”, in the US.
This project was made possible with the support of a Young Creators grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1991.
